The 'Smart' vineyard is on the edge of the Clarendon township. At
230 metres above sea level, it is the highest Grenache vineyard in
the whole of McLaren Vale. 'Saddleworth formation' soils of up to
750 million years old are composed of laminated dark grey and
green siltstone. The 65-year-old Grenache bush vines are dry
grown and yield hugely concentrated fruit. The vines are tended
to and the grapes are harvested by hand.
